I love this! There is a word in Welsh called Hiraeth that has no English translation but it describes the longing and yearning for a place that no longer exists or can no longer be returned to. It’s deeper than nostalgia and interestingly, doesn’t even need to be familiar to you. For example, you might feel this sense of longing and nostalgia for a time and place you never lived through
It's very interesting the idea that certain concepts express specific feelings that are not universal, existing only in some cultures. Psychologist Lisa Feldman Barrett discusses this a lot in her theory of constructed emotions. Still, even without a specific concept, I have felt something similar to this longing for what I didn’t live through, for situations or even for a time.
